Rides for Every Age at
Adventureland
Adventureland theme park in Altoona, Iowa
is one of the least expensive amusements in the Midwest
while still offering a variety of rides for the whole family
to enjoy. I now give you
rides that everyone in your group will like without
having to take any uncomfortable
risks.
Spanish
Galleon
The Spanish Galleon is much like the
Pharaoh’s Fury, if you’ve ever ridden it at a
carnival.
In other words, you swing back and forth in slow,
stomach-jolting motion until you can’t see
straight.
At least, that’s what happened to me after I rode it
three times in a row, which I don’t necessarily
recommend.
But if you only ride it once and move on (like a normal
person), you’ll have a much better
time.
And since the Spanish Galleon rocks you forward and
backward, instead of side to side, you don’t have too high a
tendency of getting sick.
Falling
Star
What the Spanish Galleon provides for the
back and forth ride, the Falling Star delivers for the side
to side fans. Buckle up and go airborne as the
Falling Star takes you round and round, back and forth, up
and down, in no certain order. This one’s perhaps a little better
to take small children on, even though it’s pretty far off
the ground, because it’s a little slower and doesn’t change
directions drastically.
Space
Shot
If you’ve ridden the Tower of Terror at
Disney World, you might think this one is a little
lame.
However, you get a great outdoor view of the park when
you ride the Space Shot.
You’ll shoot up through the top of the space tower to be
taken right back down at a gradual descent, and then taken
right back up again.
This motion is repeated until you’ve once again reached
land, sweet land.
Depending on your tolerance for heights, however, you
might want to avoid this one if you don’t like looking down and
seeing specks of people on the ground.
G-Force
No, you don’t experience real jet G-forces
on this ride, but it is quite a bit of fun for all
ages.
Here you will spin round and round in a 360-degree circle
while you travel round and round on the ride’s
floor.
A word of advice, though: don’t ride this if you’ve just
eaten, if you’re smelling charbroiled burgers at the nearest
restaurant, or if you have severe acid
reflux.
Your day just might be trashed if you
do.
Sawmill
Splash
As the name implies, yes, you will get
wet.
However, you won’t get quite as drenched as you might on
the SplashOver, so you’re safe there.
Hitch a ride with your group in a big, yellow,
Jumpolene-style craft, which takes you from the top of the
water tower down to a small river
below.
This is a great place to get pictures of your kids, too,
if you opted not to go along for the
ride.
Just stand at the bottom and wait for the kids who look
the most drenched.
Yep, those are yours.
