Snake Pit Bar and Grill,
Featured in Dante's
Peak
Tucked into the small town of Kingston, Idaho,
is a restaurant with its own claim to fame. The name
itself calls you to try it. The Snake
Pit. It
specializes in Buffalo Burgers, a great salad bar, and
the best Huckleberry Ice Cream you’ll ever have. To top
it off, this little western themed restaurant had a
pretty important role in a thrilling disaster movie that
won itself quite a few
awards.
The Snake
Pit
has many characteristics—posters, pictures, and stuffed
wildlife that provides many photographic opportunities. Or,
settle in for a game of pool. Plug a few coins into the arcade
games that sit invitingly in the back corner of the restaurant.
But what draws some of the most attention is the
bar.
This counter, with just a couple of stools, and
a variety of drinks to choose from, is in the same exact
place that it was over one hundred years ago when the
restaurant was first built in the late 1800’s. Not to
mention the fact that this is the same
barat
which Pierce Brosnan sat and filmed a couple
of scenes for the adventure movie Dante’s Peak.
Yeah, Pierce Brosnan, one of the best
Bond characters in the book. Pretty cool,
right?
This restaurant offers a wide variety of burgers,
seasoned and grilled to perfection with BBQ sauce on the
side? Buffalo chips, and the salad bar, with so many
choices, you can’t lose. If the Huckleberry ice cream the
waitress brings out to you at the end of your
meal—complementary—isn’t enough, then you’ll definitely
be satisfied with the range of delicacies that can be
offered to you.
It’s a snug little restaurant that serves
breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It was a railroad layover,
a mining town bar, a betrothal, and a hotel at some
points in its history. It changed owner’s hands in the
mid 1940’s, and a couple times after that. Not the
restaurant’s fault, of course. The food is fantastic
anyway.
Now, what’s the final conclusion? If you’re still
undecided, let’s see if some stats will help you
along.
